. . . Why do I need to get our legal papers, records, and personal contact information so organized? We know where it is.
Hello . . .I'm Pam Shaw, Publisher of "Personal Plans That Live On." I thought I'd start my blogging experience by explaining a bit about our own family's experience with caregiving and all that goes along with that journey -- a journey that begins the very first day you realize that you know next to nothing about your loved one, but you need to know absolutely everything!
My Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease at the age of 85, and his memory began to steadily decline. I soon realized that I needed to ask him a lot of questions, find all his personal papers, know who his friends, neighbors, and medical caregivers were .... basically I needed to have his life completely organized, all in one place. So I set to work to make that happen.
Having his plans and all items that I had discussed with him prior to his diagnosis written down, categorized, and located where I could find them easily when needed, proved to be an invaluable tool. I was able to carry on with Dad's wishes and take care of his business issues, as well as answer any questions about him when talking to his doctors, lawyer and medical caregivers. The ease of reference and ability to get your hands on information in a very timely manner is wonderful!
It was indeed my blessing and pleasure to be a caregiver for my Dad as he progressed in his life journey at our home. My Dad passed away in December of 2011 at the age of 90; but his wishes and personal plans "live on" today as his estate is managed and settled.
The "Personal Plans That Live On" method of record and document organization was a huge success for me and my family, and because of our good experience, friends and extended family started asking about it. In response to their questions, I'm proud to have created this "ready to roll" organization tool, that is completely set up and ready for you to add your own answers, information, and documents. Knowing that at any given moment life can change, I wanted to spare our family from ever having to go through the ordeal of trying to decide what my husband and I want as we get older. So we now both have our own "Personal Plans That Live On" system filled up and in place, ready whenever it may be needed.
Oh .... and don't think that illness and death are the only reasons for having your information organized. Think of all the people in recent years who have been displaced by hurricanes, tornadoes, fires, floods. If they'd had a simple, easy-to-use organizational system like this, kept in a waterproof, fireproof safe or a safety deposit box, all that they lost ..... their very identities sometimes ..... would have been safe.
